The Wallacea Programme has generated new biodiversity and ecosystem data from forests, farmland, mangroves and reefs. It has produced models and simulations of environmental responses in the past and present, and is using this information to forecast into the future.
The long-term fate of coastal ecosystems is tightly link to pollution and sedimentation arising from environmental changes on land. Researchers are now tracing the influence of land-use changes on water quality and coral reefs using a Bayesian model applied to the whole Wallacea archipelago. The findings will help guide catchment management decisions for the terrestrial and coastal zone.
